Yesterday was the Parade Across America, the inauguration parade for the new President of the United States, Joe Biden. While there were several performances, we would like to highlight that of Grammy-nominated singer Andra Day, who performed the song Rise Up from the top of the Roosevelt Hotel while looking at the mural of the Black Lives Matter movement. In turn, Kaitlyn Saunders, a 10-year-old girl, performed her skating routine at Black Lives Matter Plaza in Washington, D.C.
The lyrics of the song are truly moving and convey a hopeful message about the obstacles that we must face in life, but that we must be strong, get up and keep going.
I'll rise like the day
I'll rise up
I'll rise unafraid
I'll rise up
And I'll do it a thousand times again
And I'll rise up
High like the waves
I'll rise up
In spite of the ache
I'll rise up
And I'll do it a thousand times again
In an interview for Good Morning America, the singer and actress expressed her emotion: "In my opinion, this is a moment for healing (…) I'm honored to be a part of this." We can’t deny we are deeply touched by this.
The actress will continue to amaze us with her interpretation in The US vs Billie Holiday, the biopic of well-known jazz singer Billie Holiday. The film is directed by Lee Daniels and it stars Trevante Rhodes (Moonlight), Garret Hedlund, Natasha Lyonne along with a great cast.
