Peter Segal: "You can learn in comedy to look at yourself and society"

The director of My Spy stands up for the power of laughter

The career of director Peter Segal is quite impressive. He gained experienced through a large number of films and that expertise can be seen when he is interviewed.

 Segal's vision allows us to know in depth everything he knows, so when asked about how he approached the comedy My Spy, the filmmaker replied: “You can teach chemistry to try to be funny, but I asked the actors to be themselves and Cloe (Coleman) understood it immediately, she has a great sense of timing.”

 My Spy is about the friendship between secret agent JJ ​​(Dave Bautista) and Sophie (Chloe Coleman), a restless, curious girl who can put an investigation at risk and so decides to make a deal with the spy: he must each her everything he knows.

 When questioned about how he planned the story, the director revealed a secret: “I didn't want to make many cuts in the scenes to create the atmosphere so that the audience could enjoy the performances as if they were in the theater. Both Dave (Bautista) and Cloe (Coleman) have a great instinct for comedy,” he said.

 And he also said something that can be understood as a great lesson: "I think you can learn in comedy to look at yourself and society, you can learn more about certain topics through laughter than from the seriousness of dramas," Segal said.
