Orphan: First Kill

The story of the woman who inspired the screenplay

Orphan: First Kill is one of the most anticipated upcoming horror films. Directed by William Brent Bell (The BoyBrahms: The Boy II) and starring Isabelle Fuhrman and Julia Stiles (Hustlers), this prequel chronicles the beginnings of the evil "girl" Esther.

But who is this story inspired by? In 2007, in the Czech Republic, a woman named Barbora Skrlová suffered from hypopituitarism, which made her look like a girl. As she also showed some psychopathic traits, she was committed to a psychiatric facility, but Barbora was aware of her disease and did not hesitate to use it to her advantage.

Therefore, she began to deceive several people, including the couple who adopted her because of her charms. But, as in the first film, everything changed and fatal events took place from the moment she joined the family. Barbora was jealous of the children of the adoptive family and blamed them for everything she did.

She also convinced Klara, the children’s mother, to join a religious sect to which she belonged, where cannibalism - among other things - was a common practice. From that moment on, the children were mistreated by their own mother and lived a nightmare for years until finally a neighbor found out what was going on in that house and warned the authorities. Barbora pretended to be one of the abused children and when they were at the hospital for medical check-ups, she escaped to Norway.

There she cut her hair and changed her name to Adam pretending to be a boy. Once again, a family took her in but this time, there were some inconsistencies in her background that quickly made them suspicious. The Czech police issued an international arrest warrant and shared a photograph of her. She was eventually found and sent to prison.

Klara - the mother of the first family to adopt her - was sentenced to twelve years in prison for the abuse of her children and Barbora to five years for being the mastermind. However, Barbora appealed in 2011 and was released. To date, there is no news of her whereabouts.

A chilling story that will soon hit the big screen in Latin America.
