The Met Gala - or the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute Benefit Gala- is one of the most important fashion events in the industry and many actresses and actors show off their glamour on one of the most influential red carpets. This year’s costume theme was "In America: a lexicon of fashion" and the looks were inspired by characteristic symbols of the country from the Statue of Liberty to the Matrix film franchise.
The co-hosts of the event were pop star Billie Eilish, tennis player Naomi Osaka, poet Amanda Gorman and actor Timothée Chalamet (Beautiful Boy). What other figures stood out?
Jennifer Lopez (Second Act) wore a western-inspired outfit - hat included- and walked the red carpet with her characteristic elegance. Kristen Stewart was also present showing a platinum blonde hair - a radical change she made to play Princess Diana in Pablo Larrain's upcoming film Spencer - with a fringe like the ones they used to wear in the 50s. Experts highlighted that her inspiration came from the rockabilly style of that decade. Moreover, she paired that retro hairstyle with white pants and a pink Chanel jacket. A superstar!
Another actress that stood out on the carpet was Lupita Nyong'o, who paid homage to the great history of denim in a blue Versace dress. She will soon be seen in Latin American theaters starring in The 355, an action thriller in which she will play one of the spies who will try to prevent a deadly weapon from destroying the world by falling into the hands of the enemy. Jessica Chastain (All the Money in the World), Diane Kruger, Fan Bingbing and Penelope Cruz are also part of the cast.
Regarding Cruz, it is worth mentioning that she won the Volpi Cup for Best Actress at the Venice International Film Festival held a few days ago, therefore becoming the first Spanish actress to take home this award. It was a very emotional night for Cruz, who dedicated some sweet words to her family and her partner, Javier Bardem (The Roads not Taken).
