Global Movie Day

Today we celebrate the seventh art!

Did you know that Global Movie Day is held on the second Saturday of February? It is a date to celebrate those movies that inspire us, connect with us, and amaze us through the big screen. The magic of cinema is a unique experience. Each film can teach us something new, identify us with a story, and move us.

The beginnings of cinema date back to 1895, when brothers Auguste and Louis Lumière invented the cinematograph and projected their first films in the Indian Room of the Grand Café in Paris. The seventh art was considered a minor attraction until Georges Méliès began using the device and resorted to visual narrative resources to tell a story. From that moment on, cinema advanced by leaps and bounds until today, when it can be enjoyed in every home through the TV.

To celebrate this special day, we revisit some of the latest Best Picture winners:

CODA: the story based on the hit French film La famille Belier is about a teenage girl named Ruby, the daughter of deaf parents, who discovers that she has a great talent and passion for singing. She must make the difficult decision to go to college to study and pursue her dream or stay with her family, who depend on her greatly as the interpreter who allows them to be the link with the hearing world.

Green book: the film starring Viggo Mortensen and Mahershala Ali tells the story of Tony Lip, who works as a bouncer at the Copacabana, one of the most successful nightclubs in New York. Unfortunately, Tony is fired and has to look for a new job, which will lead him to become the chauffeur of Don Shirley, a prestigious pianist who hires his services for a tour of the southern part of the United States. During the trip, they will forge a friendship that will invite them to reflect and rethink different concepts and ideas they had before they met.

Moonlight: the film chronicles the life of a young black man, from childhood to adulthood, as he struggles to find his place in the world growing up in a tough Miami neighborhood.

Stay tuned!
