International Workers' Day: characters who are committed to their profession

A brief tour through different movies with outstanding professionals

International Workers' Day, a date that commemorates the global labor movement, was celebrated this weekend. It is a national holiday in different countries around the world, whose origins are related to the Industrial Revolution in the United States. Different demands were made at the end of the nineteenth century for the eight-hour workday to be respected. It was from this request that a movement was formed and a strike was carried out to assert the workers’ rights.

Based on this special day, here are some films where the protagonists are fully committed to their profession:

On the Basis of Sex: inspired by the true story of Ruth Bader Ginsburg (Felicity Jones), the film follows a lawyer and first-time mother who strives to make her way while facing adversity and several obstacles in her fight for equal rights throughout her career.

Nightcrawler: The film follows freelance correspondents who keep an eye out for events such as crashes, fires, etc., with the intention of selling the footage to the local TV news. From one police scene to another, their only motivation is the simple equation that turns crime and victims into dollars and cents.

Southpaw: The film tells the story of Billy, the current lightweight champion of the world, who has an impressive career, a loving wife (Rachel McAdams) and daughter, and a good financial standing. However, tragedy strikes and he finds himself at his lowest point. With the help of Tick Willis, a former fighter and current boxing trainer, Billy will fight to regain the trust of those he loves the most.
