The greatest of cinema: Stanley Kubrick’s aesthetics

Let's learn a little more about this fascinating director

Stanley Kubrick was born on July 26, 1928, in New York. He is a film director, screenwriter, and producer, who managed to stand out among his peers as one of the most influential filmmakers of the 21st century.

How did his films manage to stand out? It is due to his technical precision and great styling. Let's take a brief look:

- Photography: one of this filmmaker's greatest passions was photography and it was from this art that he began his approach to the cinema world. From his beginnings, we can already see some details of his style in his photographic records. Kubrick presented a search for a certain pictorial harmony and showed a spontaneous look that recorded the real moment.

- Framing: Stanley has a shot that characterizes him. Many of his films are striking because they have what is called one point perspective, that is, the camera uses a vanishing point towards the center of the composition that creates a black hole around which all the elements of the frame orbit.

- Order and geometry: beyond the perfect framing, most of Kubrick's films have perfect harmony between the elements, the staging, and the figures. If you carefully observe the different scenes, you will be able to identify the author’s style. The camera movements consist of totally symmetrical shots and lines that make us want to follow the characters in the film.

Another element is the use of light as an own element of the story: bounces of light with mirrors and intensities of spotlights to enrich the scenes. On the other hand, the scenery and architecture are great elements that stand out in his works, and every detail present is based on the story and what the director wants to show and tell.

What are his most outstanding films? To recognize each of these characteristics, we recommend Eyes Wide Shut starring Nicole Kidman (LionDestroyer) and Tom Cruise, 2001: A Space OdysseyA Clockwork Orange, and The Shining with Jack Nicholson.
