Oscar-winning films

A look at some of the films that have received Academy Award recognition

The Oscars, also known as the Academy Awards, is a ceremony that celebrates professionals in the film industry, whether they are actors, screenwriters, editors, or directors. An award is also given to the highlights of the seventh art, that is, the best films of the year.

Let's take a brief look at some of the films that received their well-deserved recognition:

Moonlight: starring Mahershala Ali, the film won Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay for narrating the life of a young African-American man, from childhood to adulthood, as he struggles to find his place in the world while growing up in a tough Miami neighborhood.

Green bookMahershala Ali and Viggo Mortensen team up in this great buddy film to tell the story of Tony, a driver, and his friendship with Don Shirley, a prestigious pianist. The film that delves into America's various racial prejudices won the Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay award in 2019.

Minari: Yuh-jung Youn received her well-deserved Best Supporting Actress recognition for her performance in the sweet, dramatic story about a Korean-American family who moves to a small farm in Arkansas in search of their own American dream.

Midnight in Paris: a story as original and special as Midnight in Paris undoubtedly stood out in the Best Original Screenplay category. The film tells the story of Gil (Owen Wilson), a young man who is in love with Paris and dreams of a different life. As if by magic, he travels back in time to the 1920s where he will live exciting experiences with famous artists, such as Picasso, Luis Buñuel, and Salvador Dalí.

The Imitation Game: the film directed by Morten Tyldum won the award for Best Adapted Screenplay for telling the story of Alan Turing, a young man who deciphered the theoretically unbreakable codes of the German Enigma machine during World War II. It is a film about a genius who, under extreme pressure, helped shorten the war and, in turn, saved thousands of lives.
