Actors Leslie Jordan and Tracee Ellis Ross hosted the announcement of the 94th Oscars nominations in all 23 Academy Award categories last Tuesday.
One of the big surprises of this ceremony are the couples who have received Oscar nominations in the same year and both Penélope Cruz and Javier Bardem as well as Jesse Plemons and Kirsten Dunst earned nominations in this edition.
Another big surprise was CODA, which is nominated in the Best Picture category. The remake of the French feature film The Belier Family tells the story of Ruby (Emilia Jones), the daughter of deaf parents who discovers, with the help of her choir teacher (Eugenio Derbez), her beautiful passion for music.
On the other hand, one of this season's rising stars, Kristen Stewart, received her well-deserved recognition with a nomination for Best Actress for her role in Spencer. In the same category, other great talents such as Jessica Chastain (Molly’s Game), Olivia Colman, Penélope Cruz (The 355) and Nicole Kidman (Destroyer, Lion) also stood out. Kristen Stewart played Lady Di in Spencer, a film directed by Pablo Larraín (Jackie), that shows a fragment of Princess Diana's life, more specifically, the last vacation she spends at Sandringham Castle before she separates from her husband.
The Academy confirmed that this year's gala will have a host or hostess, but it has not yet been revealed who it will be. The awards ceremony will be held in Los Angeles on March 27.
