The Oscars, one of the most important events in the world of the seventh art, is getting closer. During that special night, the most exciting and moving films of the year will be celebrated, from direction and screenplay to costumes and makeup.

Let's take a look at some of the most nominated films:

Anatomy of a Fall: the film is nominated for Best Editing and Best Original Screenplay. Sandra Hüller (The Zone of Interest) is also nominated for Best Actress and director Justine Triet is in the Best Director category. The film tells the story of Sandra, a German writer who lives with her French husband Samuel and 11-year-old son Daniel in a remote village in the French Alps. Their peaceful life changes when Samuel is found dead in the snow outside their chalet. The police will start investigating Samuel's death for which Sandra could be the main suspect.

The Zone of Interest: nominated in the categories for Best Sound, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best International Feature Film, and Best Direction, the film follows Auschwitz commandant Rudolf Höss and his wife Hedwig as they strive to build a dream life for their family in a house next to the concentration camp.

May December: the film is nominated for Best Original Screenplay. Starring Natalie Portman (Jackie), Julianne Moore (Still Alice; A Single Man), and Charles Melton, May December is set twenty years after the scandalous and sensational affair between Gracie Atherton-Yoo and Joe. The couple will come under pressure when famed actress Elizabeth Berry joins the family to study them as part of her preparation for her upcoming film inspired by the dark beginnings of the relationship.

The awards ceremony will be held at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on March 10.
