Traveling with Diamond: Marlowe

A tour around Spain

We continue with this great section of Traveling with Diamond to learn more about different cities that star in our films. Some time ago we traveled to Qatar with Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre, and today we have a ticket to Barcelona, one of the main locations of Marlowe.

The film follows Philip Marlowe, a private detective who is involved in bad business and lives a lonely life. His luck changes with the arrival of Clare Cavendish, a beautiful woman who hires him to find her ex-lover. This event turns out to be only a small part of a larger mystery to be solved.

Marlowe involved an eight-week shoot in Spain, near Barcelona, where several locations harkened back to old Hollywood. Production designer John Beard shared one of the biggest challenges he and his team faced: "The biggest challenge was the exteriors in Spain, where I had to transform the 2021 Barcelona city into 1939 Los Angeles city. Many different locations were used to recreate 1930s Los Angeles: an abandoned rayon factory became a Hollywood movie studio, an empty cotton factory became Los Angeles police headquarters, and a derelict disco on the beach became a gangster's massage parlor.”

Barcelona stands out for its different architectural styles, among them, Romanesque, Gothic, modernist, and contemporary architecture. If we think about Spain’s architectural design, Barcelona is a city that certainly stands out for its uniqueness and originality. This is because the city is characterized by hosting multiple cultures and their influences are reflected in various buildings. This diversity has turned out to be perfect for the production of Marlowe.

The film stars Liam Neeson (Memory; Mark Felt: The Man Who Brought Down The White House), Diane Kruger (355), and Jessica Lange and will be in theaters in Latin America this year.
