World Music Day

Stories that show the art of music as a source of inspiration

Music can take us to another reality. If we are sad, we play a song to feel that much-needed comfort. If we are happy, we dance until our bodies can't go on. So on this special date, we celebrate all musicians, music lovers, and all the people who enjoy this wonderful form of artistic expression.

Let's take a look at several films that show how music impacts the lives of different characters:

Song for Marion: the film revolves around Arthur (Terence Stamp), a grumpy retiree who can't understand how his wife stubbornly embarrasses herself by singing stupid songs with the unconventional neighborhood choir. However, choir director Elizabeth (Gemma Arterton) sees something special in the reluctant Arthur and tries to persuade him to join her group. Arthur will discover that it is never too late to change and, at the age of 70, he will finally dare to release his emotions and get closer to his son James.

CODA: the film follows Ruby (Emilia Jones), the only hearing daughter in a deaf family. She spends her day helping her family, who depend on her to communicate with the rest of the world, and pursuing her dreams as an amateur singer with the help of Bernardo Villalobos (Eugenio Derbez), a passionate school teacher whose unusual teaching methods bring out the best in his students. Eventually, Ruby will find herself at a crossroads: she will have to decide whether she wants to continue with the family business or follow her great passion, singing.

We are your Friends: set in the world of electronic music and Hollywood nightlife, an aspiring DJ named Cole spends his days with his childhood friends and his nights trying to make a hit that will be heard everywhere.
