Only God forgives

Synopsis

As a member of a powerful criminal family, Julian (Ryan Gosling) oversees the operation of a Thai Boxing club in Bangkok that serves as the front for an international heroin operation. When Julian’s older brother, Billy (Tom Burke), brutally murders a prostitute, the cops call upon a retired police lieutenant (Vithaya Pansringarm) who operates as a self-styled vigilante, dispensing his own form of karmic justice. The lieutenant allows the murdered girl’s father to kill Billy, and then restores order by chopping off the father's right hand.

Seeking vengeance for his brother’s murder, Julian tracks down the man who killed Billy, but when he sees the stump where his hand once was he gets a glimpse of the fair dealing that has already been carried out and is paralyzed by indecision. Julian abandons his original plan and becomes obsessed with learning more about what the retired police lieutenant represents.
