Adrift: filming at sea, a challenge for production

Director Baltasar Kormákur is an avid lover of nature

"Yes, I cannot tell you how many camera teams we lost," jokes Baltasar Kormákur, director of Adrift, the film starring the great acting duo of Shailene Woodley and Sam Clafin.

The film is based on a real drama that took place in the middle of the ocean when a couple, without imagining it, sailed directly to the focus of one of the most catastrophic hurricanes in history.

But how to face a story where the fury of nature is one of the main actors? Highly committed to adventure, Kormákur reveals his secret: "You have your ideas, you can make a graphic script as much as you want but, in the end, you have to let nature dictate the shooting... and usually something interesting happens."

The power of love

This avid lover of nature did not lack passionate followers. One of them is Sam Clafin. "Baltasar is a Viking. Literally. He is the man you want in front of a movie, especially one like this one. I admire him".

Adrift emerges and portrays a deep tragedy. But it is also a film dominated by perseverance, guts and, ultimately, highlights the healing power of love like no other.
