Troy Kotsur: the big surprise among the Golden Globe nominees

The actor receives his well-deserved recognition after twenty years

One of the biggest surprises this awards season was Troy Kotsur, who was part of the cast of CODA. Kotsur received nominations for Best Supporting Actor at the Critics' Choice Awards, the Independent Spirit Awards and the Golden Globes. The international recognition is due to his role as Frank Rossi, a deaf father who works as a fisherman and has a hearing daughter who helps him in the family business.

The non-hearing actor has been in the film and theater industry for more than twenty years. His success comes from his great professional track record on stage as he was part of the Tony Award winning Big River and the 2015 Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Award Nominee Spring Awakening. He also participated in several TV shows such as Criminal MindsCSI: NY and Sue Thomas: F.B.Eye. He recently stood out for his performance in The Mandalorian where he acted and choreographed an adapted form of sign language.

For Troy Kotsur, playing Frank Rossi was an amazing challenge. He was extremely committed to his role, learning all the ins and outs of being a fisherman and living close to the ocean to be in touch with his character's universe. It is believed that one of the most profound scenes in CODA, when Ruby shares her singing talent with her father, is what caught the critics' attention and for which the actor is receiving the well-deserved recognition.

The 2022 Golden Globe Awards will be held on January 9th. Watch the trailer again and keep an eye out for more updates.
