CODA: the big winner at Sundance Film Festival

It gave and will give plenty to talk about!

The film CODA (which stands for Child of Deaf Adults) was the big revelation of the 2021 Sundance Film Festival held a few weeks ago. Why? Because it won four awards in the U.S. dramatic competition: Grand Jury Prize, Audience Award, Best Director (Siân Heder) and Best Cast (Eugenio Derbez, Emilia Jones, Marlee Matlin, Ferdia Walsh-Peelo).

The story is based on the hit French film The Bélier Family and is about a teenage girl named Ruby, who is part of a family of fishermen who are all deaf, except for her, who has been playing the role of interpreter her whole life. She also helps her father and brother in the family business selling fish in the small Massachusetts town. Her life was quiet until she decides to join the school choir and realizes - encouraged by her teacher - that singing is her passion. Will she give up her dream in pursuit of the family legacy?

Here is one of the reviews of the film: "Yes, it feels like a sentimental film that hits all the right notes. You will laugh and you will cry. It's a movie the whole family will love. Even later you'll find yourself looking for Joni Mitchell’s songs."

A title worth mentioning and watching when it premieres in Latin America.

Stay tuned for more news!
