Mexico celebrates Independence Day!

Learn more about their national movies

Mexico celebrates the Independence Day on September 16. Every year, most of the population celebrates with family and friends, tasting delicious traditional dishes such as enchiladas, pozole and pancita. The green, white and red colors belonging to the country's flag can be seen in all cities during the celebration of the national day.

That is why we want to pay tribute to this territory and recommend some local films you cannot miss.

One of the highest-grossing Mexican films is ¿Qué culpa tiene el niño? Starring Karla Souza, an executive with a strong temperament and a great sense of humor, who meets a twenty-one-year-old boy (Ricardo Abarca) at a party and after spending a fun night together, they will have to face an “unexpected” situation some weeks later.

Mamá se fue de viaje, released in 2017, is the remake of the Argentine comedy by Ariel Winograd that bears the same name. After several years of being married, Casandra (Andrea Legarreta) decides to go on vacation alone, leaving her husband (Martín Altomaro) in charge of their four children. During the absence of his wife, he will often find himself in trouble, which will make him appreciate his wife even more. Because who said being at home is an easy task?

Polvo is a black comedy directed by and starring José María Yazpik. The film and the actors were awarded prizes at different film festivals, such as the Morelia International Film Festival, where co-star María Treviño won the award for best supporting actress. The Tijuana mafia orders Chato (Yazpik) to recover a drug shipment that has been dropped from the air over San Ignacio. Otherwise, all the townspeople will be in danger. Will he make it?

If you prefer something more romantic, we recommend A ti te quería encontrar, starring Erick Elias and Eréndira Ibarra. It is the story of a happily in love and soon to be married couple who are forced to live apart a few weeks before their wedding for work reasons. During that time, they will meet other people who will make them question what they want.

Si yo fuera tu, starring Juan Manuel Bernal and Sophie Alexander, is a comedy about a marriage that has a heated argument which causes a transformation of personalities when the planets Venus, Earth and Mars are unusually aligned.

And finally, Alejandro Speitzer and Minnie West star in Me gusta pero me asusta, a film in which Brayan Rodriguez (Speitzer), son of one of the most influential families in Sinaloa, is sent to Mexico City to expand the secret business of his family. There he will meet Claudia (West), a girl who comes from a totally different world. And their worlds will collide...

Let’s enjoy them!
