Green Book: best original screenplay!

The Oscars and a recognition night for Peter Farrelly’s night

The 2019 edition of the Oscar awards had an indisputable winner: Green Book. The true story of a sincere and long- lasting friendship that moved the entire jury.

Because the chemistry between the protagonists Viggo Mortensen and Mahershala Ali goes beyond the screen. That is the result of a superbly accomplished script by Nick Vallelonga, Brian Currie and director Peter Farrelly, who were awarded best original screenplay.

And to think it was by chance since Vallelonga, Tony Lip’s real son (played by Mortensen), run into Brian Currie in a coffee shop and told him his idea. They began working together, then Farrelly joined them and today each of them owns an Oscar.

When Brian Currie received the award, he said: “when you have Mahershala Ali and Viggo Mortensen saying the lines you wrote, you feel the luckiest writer in the surface of earth”.

While Farrelly thanked the cast: “Viggo, Mahershala, Linda (Cardellini), we have nothing without you”.

Eventually Nick Vallelonga said: “this is an amazing honor. Thank you everyone for voting for us and to all the nominees. What an amazing category to be with such talented people.”

Visibly moved, Vallelonga remembered his father, one of the members of this wonderful friendship story: “thanks, dad. We did it!”
