Five movies inspired by real events

Did you know that these films were based on events that happened in real life?

Reality can be a great source of inspiration and when it comes to telling a story, the seventh art has often resorted to true situations or events. Films give us the chance to escape and enjoyment through fiction, but also make us learn and reflect through events that occurred in real life.

Let's take a brief look at some of the movies inspired by real events:

Breathe: Based on the true story of the parents of the film's producer, Jonathan Cavendish, the film chronicles the romance between Robin Cavendish and Diana Blacker. Robin has his whole life ahead of him but is unexpectedly paralyzed when he contracts polio while visiting Africa. Despite all advice, his wife decides to care for him with great devotion and ingenious determination. Starring Andrew Garfield (Hacksaw Ridge) and Claire Foy, the film invites you to face adversity with a smile.

Lion: Dev Patel (The Man Who Knew Infinity), Rooney Mara (Side EffectsDon't Worry, He Won't Get Far on Foot) and Nicole Kidman (Secret in their eyesDestroyer) team up to tell the story of a five-year-old Indian boy who gets lost thousands of miles from home and is adopted by a couple in Australia. Twenty-five years later, the young boy sets out to find his family of origin.

At Eternity's Gate: inspired by the facts, rumors and portraits of Vincent van Gogh's life, the story narrates his stay in France, where he lived for a while and close to Paul Gauguin. It is an artistic experience in itself, directed by Julian Schnabel and starring Willem Dafoe (The Florida Project) and Oscar Isaac (SuburbiconThe Promise).

Official Secrets: Keira Knightley (The Imitation GameColette) plays translator Katherine Gun, who decides to leak classified information about the British government's spying on the UN. The film explores the consequences for the protagonist after her brave decision.

Hustlers: The comedy-drama starring Jennifer Lopez (Second ActParker) follows a team of dancers at a strip club who team up to swindle their Wall Street clients. Inspired by a viral New York Magazine article, the film delves into, among other characters, the life of stripper Samantha Barbash, one of the star dancers at the Hustlers Club.

As you can see, interesting events have occurred throughout history that deserve to be taken to the big screen. One of the most recent films that continues with this theme is Spencer, which narrates the last days of Lady Di at Sandringham Castle before the end of her marriage to Prince Charles.

Enjoy the weekend with great movies!
